After 7 restaurants in India, 3 Indian cookbooks, and 1 cooking school in California, Ruta knows a bit about food. Here in Milwaukee, she serves her unique brand of clean, healthy Indian food: modern yet rooted in Ayurvedic tradition. Ruta’s Fresh Indian Fare is “gourmet” fast-casual Indian food—NaanMelts, Fresh Indian Bowls, Curries, Soups and Salads, even a Chai Bar. Expect bold flavors! Ruta invented the NaanMelt right here in Milwaukee. Imagine a grilled sandwich, but made with Naan and stuffed with vibrant Indian flavors: juicy protein, unique spreads, crunchy veggies, and gooey Wisconsin cheddar (don’t worry Vegans, we gotchu!) And while our NaanMelts are chock-full of delicious, they’re made from scratch with superfoods like turmeric, kale, and crucifers. NaanMelts are a hot customer favorite at Ruta’s and at the Farmer’s Markets we serve.

Pick from Chicken Tikka, Goa Pork, Chickpea Tomato, or Coconut Tofu. Each bowl is curated by Chef Ruta with fragrant Basmati Rice, a delicious yet light Curry Sauce, two Vibrant Veggies, Kaleslaw, and a Pickle Relish. They don’t just taste good, they’re good for you! And substitutions are welcome. Don’t care for a particular veggie? Want to try a different Curry Sauce? No problem! Ruta’s has always been a family affair. Ruta’s daughters started helping out at her first café in Goa when they were 9 and 6 years old. And you’ll often see her husband Neville fixing a leaky faucet or bringing in a last-minute sack of onions. Ruta believes cooking and feeding people is a sacred act, which means you’ll always be treated as a treasured guest, and your food will be prepared and packed with care—whether you dine in, get it to go, or order for delivery.

Ruta’s modern take on Indian cuisine uses Ayurvedic principles to maximize nutrition and flavor with none of the heaviness associated with restaurant food. Instead of adding sugar, fat, and salt, our recipes extract flavor from fresh ingredients and life-affirming spices that fight inflammation. We love vibrant veggies because they’re full of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. And aside from our bread, we make everything in-house, including our spice blends and our drinks.

It's one of my local faves. I love how you are able to build your iwn bowl or take one of their suggested combinations. I've even straight vegan bowls, vegetarian bowls and omnivour bowls, and ebery combination we've had had been excellent and so fresh. The staff/owners are lovely and so inviting.
